Screwdriver Bits
Hex Bits - The generic term for an Allen bit (or Allen wrench) is a hex key. "Allen" is a brand name, while "hex key" refers to the tool's function (driving fasteners with hexagonal sockets).
Phillips Bits - The generic term for a Phillips screwdriver bit is a cross-head screwdriver bit. Phillips head bits are also known as cruciform, cross-recessed, cross-tip, or cross-point bits. And finally as my daughter and neices call them Plus bits as they look like a plus sign.
Slotted Bits - The generic term for a slotted screwdriver bit is flathead or slotted screwdriver bit. You can also refer to it as a flat-blade, slot-head, straight, or common blade screwdriver bit. Or as my daughter and neices call them minus bits because they look like a minus sign and the phillips look like a plus sign.
Star Bits - also known as Torx(R) bits and the official generic name is hexalobular internal. Torx is a registered trademark of Acument Global Technologies, Inc.
Star Security Bits - also known as tamper-proof Torx screwdriver bit is Security Torx, or Tamper-Resistant Torx (R). Torx is a registered trademark of Acument Global Technologies, Inc.
